Working with DITA XML Files: Challenges and Converting to HTML for Publishing

Has anyone worked with DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) files? I'm needing to extra files using the dita xml schema format and convert them back to html but running to a roadblock. At first I thought I would simply parse the xml and extract out the parameters I needed but learned that the files don't all have the same tag structure. Google tells me you can convert them to HTML for publishing purposes but it's a 3rd party tool and no app seems to be created yet for workato. So just curious if anyone else has had to work with these type of XML files
